Donate Books to RRLC and Do 3 Good Things
- Help RRLC fund its programs that serve all area librarians and library staff.
- Help Rochester Public Library fund its programs for the community.
- Clean your bookshelves!
The Rochester Regional Library Council has entered into an agreement with the Rundel Library Foundation to do Internet Book Sales.
Here is how it works.
Staff at RRLC libraries, RRLC trustees, friends of RRLC, and others donate books to RRLC. Each book must be in reasonably good condition and have a retail value of $10.00 or more.
RRLC ships the books to the Rundel Library Foundation on a regular basis.
The Rundel Library Foundation, on behalf of the Library Store, a division of Rundel Library Foundation, sells used books on the Internet through an agreement with Advanced Book Exchange on their web site, www. abebooks.com. The Library Store also has a contractual sales agreement with Alibris at www.alibris.com. The Foundation has agreed to include books donated to RRLC in the books listed for sale as part of these arrangements.
The Foundation will research the value of the book taking into account age, condition, edition and rarity. The Foundation reserves the right to determine the retail list price of each book.
Each book will be listed with ABEbooks, Alibris and their affiliates for 180 days. If the book is not sold by the end of the 180 days, it may be removed from the active Internet inventory or re-listed at a new price.
The Foundation pays all expenses related to price research, listing costs, shipping costs and supplies, credit card fees, as well as marketing and miscellaneous expenses.
When a book is sold, RRLC receives 50% of the actual sale price and the Foundation keeps 50%.
This is a great and easy way to help all library staff in the region, and help the Rochester Public Library also. Donations are tax-deductible; however, neither RRLC nor the Foundation will place a value on the book. There is a copy of a “Gift Presentation Form” on the RRLC website.
So spend some time this holiday season making room on your bookshelves for the new gift books you receive and send those you no longer want to RRLC. Books may be dropped off at RRLC during regular business hours or when you attend any of RRLC’s programs. Books may also be placed in RRLC delivery, however, if there are multiple boxes, please call RRLC so we can alert our delivery courier.
Your donations are greatly appreciated!
