RRLC 2010 SCHOOL LIBRARY OF THE YEARBARCLAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIBRARY

What makes the Barclay Library at Barclay Elementary School such a special place?
“There is always something going on…!”
“Caught Reading @ Barclay Library”
“…fun, interactive learning experiences for the students…”
“I love this library!”
Some examples of nominating entriesBarclay Library with School Library Media Specialist
Suzanne Shearman, is the 2010 RRLC School Library of the Year. The judges for the National Library Week Contest –
Ellen Stoll Walsh, local children’s author and storyteller,
Nikki Rudd, 10NBC news reporter, and
Bernard Margolis,
NY State Librarian – were impressed that the library was open all
day…kids could just walk in. “It has so many varied activities to
offer.”
What is it that makes the library special, according to
Suzanne? “I work with the teachers on the curriculum. I attend grade
level meetings and many times present at these meetings (new
technologies ex. Flips, Learn360). I collaborate with teachers on
various classroom projects – such as the “living museum”. Listening.
That’s what’s important!”
There isn’t a truly quiet moment at
the Barclay Library, unless you arrive very early. Even then, kids are
there first thing looking for that special book to take out. Take a
photo tour and watch the video of our day at Barcaly:
