Brighton Memorial Library rocks!  That is the sentiment of 109 people who nominated Brighton for the RRLC 2012 Public Library of the Year.

Brighton Memorial Library had “billions” of nominations said our judges. “People are obviously excited about their library. There were many long and thoughtful comments. People didn’t all write the same thing. It was impressive.”

And the kudos haven’t stopped. The day we visited to shoot photos and video, people came up to us to tell us why they loved BML. Gary, who worked for 20 plus years in the hotel business, said “it all boils down to good customer service, and Brighton is the best.”

Some BML patrons even “shop around” for libraries, and they choose Brighton.  Here are a few samples of the “love letters” to BML:

… This morning the children’s librarian and a volunteer in there helped me find the exact books I needed for my 18 month old grandson's project with granny!! I am especially looking forward to bringing him there for Toddler classes and play with others his age. (We don't have his age classes at my "home" library.)  

… I guess I'm not the only one who's voting for BML if the number of people always waiting for the door to be opened each day at 10:00 a.m. is an indication!!

A treasure for me! The staff at BML deserves kudos and beyond! …The willingness to help a patron is customer service that you don't see and/or hear anywhere else!

BML gets my vote for Public Library of the Year because of its staff… BML is First-rate and First-class -- a jewel in the Brighton community!

Best staff, great selection, accessible, many, many services. It's a real gathering place for our community.

Staff are most friendly. Though I am a newcomer to Brighton, NY, the BML staff took no more than 5 minutes to issue me a new card and very helpful in giving me the info I needed regarding BML facilities. I am so satisfied.

The staff, the customer service, the collections, the programming, the book store … people are passionate about this library. Congratulations to BML Director Jennifer Ries-Taggart and the BML staff for being selected as the RRLC 2012 Public Library of the Year.
