Placing the rich and unique resources of our libraries, archives, museums and historical societies on the Web is an exciting and often groundbreaking endeavor, but the process may seem overwhelming and even chaotic. CONTENTdm helps transform digital chaos into managed order. CONTENTdm is a digital collections management application that ingests, describes, indexes and stores pre-digitized files of all types and places them in searchable, self-contained collections for all to see on the World Wide Web. During this hands-on session participants will work with the latest version of this user-friendly digital collections management application.
After taking this class, participants will be able to:
• Use the CONTENTdm Project Client software to import and describe digital items • Modify the Dublin Core metadata scheme to better describe your digital collections • Choose from a selection of controlled terminologies • Set up a template of persistent metadata • Create a two-sided view of a postcard • Build a searchable full-text document • Publish a searchable collection of digital objects on the World Wide Web • Revise/edit an online collection • Better manage your institution’s digitized content • Enhance the visibility of your institution by being digitally available 24/7 Presenter: Joyce Rambo, Reference and Digital Collections Librarian, Nylink Joyce provides training and primary support for OCLC FirstSearch and CONTENTdm Digital Management software and is a part of the OCLC Core services team. Joyce writes regularly for Nylink publications and delivers presentations on topics of interest to OCLC reference and digitization service subscribers.
