RRLC Library of the Year 2012 Contest

for National Library Week, April 8 -14, 2012


The Rochester Regional Library Council (RRLC) will recognize three great libraries in the Rochester area: one public library; one academic or special library; and one school library.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT LIBRARY? 
According to a posting on the Library Leadership Network, several things:

•    They provide superior service
•    They train and re-train their staff
•    They are well supported by their communities or parent institutions
•    They integrate the marketing of virtual, place, and outreach services
•    They serve both the weakest and the strongest among their constituents
•    They provide education and, as appropriate, entertainment
•    They use virtual tools to offer a full range of timely information and services

Winners, which will be announced during National Library Week, April 8 -14, will be selected by judges Todd Butler, Executive Director of the Ad Council of Rochester, Matthew Bollerman, President of the New York Library Association and Director of Hauppauge Public Library and Carol Anne Germain, President-Elect of the New York Library Association and Networked Resources Education Librarian, University at Albany.

Each winning library will receive a plaque, a banner, and a $100 gift card, and will be recognized at the RRLC Annual Meeting in June.

RRLC has posters available to place in your library (“Do You Love Your Library?”) that will encourage people to go to the RRLC website and fill out a form telling us why they love your library. You will be receiving posters soon (or you can also download the file -- see the link below).

Friday, March 16, 2012

HOW TO VOTE:
Click on the "Do you Love your Library? button [above] to vote online or download a nomination form that can be faxed (585.223.7712) to the Rochester Regional Library Council.

Nominations for RRLC’s Library of the Year contest must come from library users, so encourage your users to submit YOUR library’s name and explain why yours is a great library.
