Through this program, State funds are allocated to RRLC to assist the libraries in not-for-profit, acute-care hospitals in the service area. HLSP helps libraries meet state standards for hospital libraries and coordinates resource sharing and continuing education activities for area hospital library staff.
Participants include: Edward G. Miner Library, at the University of Rochester Medical Center
Basil G. Bibby Library, at the University of Rochester Dental School
Nathaniel J. Hurst Library, at Unity Health System
Williams Health Science Library, at Highland Hospital
Lillie B. Werner Library at Rochester General Hospital
Smaller libraries serving rural areas receive library services through RRLC's Circuit Library Services Program.
The HLSP is governed locally by the Hospital Library Service Program Advisory Committee, which includes a representative from each of RRLC's large urban hospitals. This group makes decisions about the direction of the Hospital Library Service Program, its budget and its activities. The RRLC Assistant Director serves as an ex-officio member of the committee and coordinator of the HLS program.
