Using the RRLC Union List of Serials
Scope and Contents
A serial, for the purposes of this Union List, is defined according to Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd edition: "A publication in any medium issued in successive parts bearing numerical or chronological designations and intended to continue indefinitely. Serials include periodicals; newspapers; annuals (reports, yearbooks, etc); the journals, memoirs, proceedings, transactions, etc., of societies; and numbered monographic series."
NOTE: Electronic journals are included in the Union List of Serials to the extent that they are known to be licensed for interlibrary loan. It is RRLC policy to add these holdings if they are submitted by the library.

The Regional Union List of Serials consists of more than 130,000 holdings locations for more than 70,000 serial titles held by 450 Rochester area libraries. The Regional Union List of Serials is available on OCLC via WorldCat. It is the basis for interlibrary loan, direct access and coordinated acquisitions of serials within the region. All types of libraries, including corporate, academic, hospital, and museum libraries, are represented in the Regional Union List of Serials
As a free service to its members and to the members of local school and public library systems, RRLC updates Union List of Serials data on an ongoing basis using information provided by libraries, ensuring that a consistent set of standards is maintained.

Update Guidelines Summary
Frequency of submissions:
Anytime: In order to assure the accuracy of the Union List of Serials, it is requested that you report changes in your retention policy as well as additions and deletions when they occur.
Format of submissions:
Anyway: We will accept changes in a variety of formats:
Complete an RRLC Union List Report Form (see below) and submit the form to the RRLC office for each item for which there has been a change or fill out the Report Form online.
We can also accept any other format that reports deletions, changes or additions and includes the identifying OCLC # or ISSN, if known.
